Catalina Foothills Estates is composed of custom built luxury homes; many of which were designed by the famous architect Josias Joesler. In fact, it was Joesler and a man named John Murphey who were largely responsible for the development of Catalina Foothills Estates. In 1928, John Murphey, through a federal land auction, acquired 7000 acres- extending just north of River Road from Oracle Road and east to Sabino Canyon. By 1935, Murphey would join efforts with Joesler to complete his vision of what would be known as "Catalina Foothills Estates". Part of what made these new homes so unique was the large lots -much more spacious than city lots- that allowed for sprawling ranch style homes.
Another defining feature of the houses in this region is that they adapt to the natural surroundings- many have tile roofs, adobe brick walls and wooden beams that blend in with the earthy colors and textures of the area. The views from the Catalina Foothills are some of the very best that Tucson has to offer. At one with nature, you'll look upon the picturesque mountains and watch the vivid shades of orange and pink created by the setting sun. At night, the stars shine brightly because the air is clear and clean.
Though it will seem like a natural oasis, the Catalina Foothills Estates are actually very close to excellent shopping and dining at La Encantada mall on Skyline Dr., or St. Philips Plaza on River Rd. and Campbell Ave. Also, Catalina Foothills School District is highly acclaimed with Manzanita Elementary, Sunrise Elementary, Orange Grove Middle School and Catalina Foothills High School included in the list of schools for the area.
